Coaching Team Code of Conduct

Our Coaches Code of Conduct

  • Remember that young people participate for pleasure – winning is only part of the fun.
  • Never ridicule or yell at a young player for making a mistake or not coming first.
  • Make sure all activities are appropriate to the age, ability and experience of those taking part, whilst also ensuring that equipment and facilities meet safety standards.
  • Operate within the rules and spirit of cricket and teach your players to do the same.
  • Display consistently high standards of behaviour, appearance and time keeping, remembering that coaches act as role models.
  • Hold the appropriate & valid qualifications. Keep up to date with the latest cricket coaching practices and principles of growth & development of young people.
  • Display control and respect to all involved in cricket. This includes opponents, coaches, umpires, administrators, parents and spectators. Encourage your players to do the same.
  • Avoid overplaying the more talented players; all young players need and deserve equal time, attention and opportunities.
  • Be reasonable in your demands on the players’ time, energy and enthusiasm, ensuring that the time they spend with you is a positive experience.
  • Any physical contact with a young person should be appropriate to the situation and necessary only for the player’s skill development or to help avoid an injury.

Our junior teams play in the West Area (name changed in 2018 from North Area) of the Middlesex Junior Cricket Association (MJCA) League for boys and the Middlesex Seaxe League for girls. Most league matches are played against other clubs in our local area to minimise travel time after school.

All midweek matches start at 6:00pm and Sunday matches at 10:00am. Players need to arrive at the ground no later than 5:30pm for the warm up for midweek games and no later than 9:30am for the Sunday games. For away games all players must meet directly at the away venue at least 30 minutes before the start time - we do not arrange lifts from our ground. Cup games can be on any day of the week and are advised once the cup draws are made.

Selection is informed by email or text a few days in advance of the fixture date. By pressing the "I am available" or the "I am not available" button in the email or replying "yes" or "no" to your text, it updates our team-sheet on the website and confirms that player's availability to the team manager. It is important to make yourself available for both home and away matches. If the match is called off due to bad weather, the parents of those players selected will receive a text message. All players selected for matches must wear our official club shirt.
