Harrow Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Acton on Sat 07 May 2011 at 1300
Match was Drawn
Match report
Harrow dominated their first Middlesex County League game of the season at home to Acton on Saturday, but just finished short of the victory they deserved as Acton held on for a draw with eight wickets down. Put into bat, Harrow recovered quickly from the loss of Hussain for a duck as Dave Walker (59) and Anant Brahmbhatt (46) put on 103 for the second wicket to set the tone for the innings. There were contributions from the entire middle order with Darius D’Souza compiling an excellent 57 on debut and Ajay Patdiwala an effortless run-a-ball 44. A late flourish from Tushaar Karia (32*) ensured that Harrow were able to declare on a very competitive 265-8 off 52 overs.
In reply, a fine spell of 15-5-27-2, to round off an excellent personal performance from Tushaar Karia, ensured that Acton never got going. Further tight bowling at the other end continued to strangle the scoring rate as Acton’s batsmen found scoring difficult. As Acton blocked out for the draw Harrow edged closer to taking the ten wickets required. Crucially, two catches were dropped late in the innings, and meant that Acton just held out, finishing on 114-8 after 48 overs of mostly turgid batting.
Despite feeling slightly short changed by not landing the knock out punch, it was nevertheless a solid start to the season as Harrow picked up 4 points for the winning draw.
