Harrow Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI v Hainault & Clayhill on Sun 08 May 2011 at 1300
Harrow Cricket Club Won
Match report
A slightly weakened Harrow team pulled off something of an upset on Sunday by beating Essex premier league side Hainault & Clayhill in the ECB national cup. Missing a number of first team regulars, the players who were drafted in performed with great gusto and spirit.
Winning the toss and batting first, Hainault & Clayhill looked set for a big score as some early boundaries flowed. However a combination of poor shot selection and excellent bowling from the Harrow bowlers ensured that they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Waqas Hussain was the pick of the bowlers with 4-26, but was supported by excellent spells from young seamer Kirit Mohane (2-24) and the left arm spin of Pritesh Vaghela who bowled with much guile to take 2-24 off his nine overs. As the bowlers applied the pressure, Hainault collapsed from 98-3 to 144 all out.
Despite being reduced to 31-2, an excellent 111 run partnership between Tushaar Karia (70*) and Farrukh Choudhry (40) made light work of the modest target. They batted with great maturity and calm to pick off the easy singles and put away the bad balls, not allowing the bowling to exert any pressure.
The eight wicket win means that Harrow progress to the second round of the National where it is likely that a home draw to another Essex side awaits.
