Harrow Cricket Club 2nd XI v MTSSC on Sat 07 May 2016 at 12:30
Harrow Cricket Club Won by 4 runs
Match report
It was the first league game hosted at the Folly for the 2016 season, and that certainly showed, with a highly contested low run scoring game. Newly appointed skipper Kevan lost the toss and his team were inserted to bat under the scorching sun. Harrow lost two wickets relatively early on a pitch which provided variable bounce throughout. However, Sachin Patel produced a fine shot-making innings batting at number 4, as he looked to steady the Harrow ship. Several wickets fell for cheap in the middle order, until Rohit put a fine ball striking display on for his fellow teammates, including his skipper who dug deep at the other end. Harrow ended up on 141 all out after 37 overs.
Harrow 2s captain Kevan looked to build on his high wicket taking season from the previous year, and formed a good opening bowling partnership with Vijay. Several early wickets fell, which put Harrow in a strong position at the 10 over mark. A middle order partnership looked to spoil the fun at the folly, until a great bowling spell from Kalyan put Harrow back into contention.
At the death of the game, with only 12 runs needed with 2 wickets in hand, an inspired bowling change from the skipper brought the top run scorer Sachin Patel back on to bowl. With only 4 runs/1 wicket needed to win the game, Sachin produced what can only be described as an unplayable delivery, taking the number 11's off stump cartwheeling out of the ground.
Jubilation followed at the folly, as the 2nd XI look to bounce back from last years disappointment. This side is a great mixture of youth and experience, and is definitely one to watch throughout the season.
