Harrow St Marys A v Harrow Cricket Club U15A on Thu 11 May 2017 at 18:00
Harrow Cricket Club Won Harrow won by 5 Wickets
Match report
Another good win by our U15’s, we won the toss and fielded first. Great start by our opening bowlers Sadam and Irtiza, dampness in the wicket aided our spinners and so refreshing to see both of them turning the ball sharply. Iritza spell was mesmerising he kept the batters guessing with guile of flight, control of line and length aided by his natural ability to spin the ball away from right handers. Nathan bowled a good spell of medium pace with good control and shaping the ball away from right handers, impressive for a 13 year old ( not phased at all). Raza continued his impressive start to the season and again bowled with great control, enthusiasm and shape away from right handers, it should be noted that he comes on to ball at crucial stage of the match and he keeps his nerve ( the kids got minerals!!!). Fielding on the whole was good, disappointing to concede two boundaries to over throws – lack of judgement and no backing up. Field placing is still an issue and will be worked on in training drills, I believe we could have prevented 15 runs with smarter management of our fielders. It needs noting that Krusal and Sadam as senior players keep the team in good control and provide encouragement. Special mention goes to Syan ( only 13) kept wicket impressively, good movement, always encouraging the team and when the going got tuff did not lose his composure – well done young man. 101 is a tricky score to chase on a spicy HSM wicket, rewards for any good bowler who gives it revs and bends his back. However another solid start from Krish and Nathan who rotated the strike and put away the bad balls with power and placement. Krish was unlucky to be given out stumped, Nathan and Sadam miscommunication caused the loss of Nathans wicket. Rikin was given out LBW when it hit his thigh pad, from square leg seemed HIGH! Sadam took responcibility after the run out and batted well – he’s maturing into a fine all-rounder but still must curtail unnecessary cross bats swipes. Needing 25 to win and with Syan and Irtiza new to the crease things and fading light meant a nervous phase. However Syan was calm and Irtiza hit two shots of the day a cover drive and a flick off his pads in front of Square for a sublime six and brought us home. As I have said on a number of occasions this team is a joy to coach and may not be the most talented but are street wise and always find a way to get across the line. Someone new seems to put up their hand in the mist of the battle – well done team!!!. Pointer to the parents – thanks for bringing the colts on time always appreciated gets us off to a good start in preparation for the game – but I am so disappointed at lack of parents watching the kids develop and provide encouragement ( exception being Kirit, Sam – thanks to Carl Clarke a regular supporter – and yet again no one to help scoring – please help !!!
