Harrow Cricket Club Lost Harrow lost by 17 runs

Match report Quarter Final game against a strong Osterley side was a disappointing result on many counts. Our U15 team has built its success over the past three years on being “street wise”, individuals putting their hands up when the going get tuff, and somehow getting us over the line. Furthermore being disciplined in bowling and commanding in the field are the strong traits of this team which has resulted in a trophy ever year for the past three years. So it’s disappointing to report that we could have been more determined and fearless in the field, real lack of “smart management of field placing and poor bowling changes - ( one of our most reliable bowler all year only bowled three overs).
However we started so well, Myles took an excellent catch in the first over. Osterley’s score after 6 overs was 19. We then lost concentration in the field their best batsmen was dropped on 8 and he went on to get a 50. These end of season play-off games are settled by teams getting momentum and being fearless. Osterley did bat well in the latter stage helped by our not usual high standards in the field and as already stated poor field placing. Osterley in fact scored 100 runs in last ten overs.
During our batting we seemed preoccupied by playing the “name” rather than the ball. All be it Osterley’s opening two bowlers are two of the best in the circuit, however I expected our top six batsmen to survive and capitalise when the not so experienced bowlers came on. Useful partnership by Mandip and Sadam and then Myles and Mandip showed we could have got over the line had we not lost two wickets in the first three overs. A real shame to end the season on a poor showing. Losing by only 17 runs when playing so badly leaves a feeling of “what if”; much could have been achieved had we been smarter.
I don’t want to dwell too much on this poor showing by what I consider one of the strongest colt teams that I have managed at Harrow, this team is full of talented individuals who don’t realise all their potential, we have so many bases covered in terms of our bowling – it is the most complete balanced attack. We can definitely be better in the field and disciplined in the batting. This team has been a joy to coach over the past three years and during this winter we need to nurture them all so as they can be polished cricketers who will contribute to our adult teams for many years to come– please note the more experienced players in this team already play in our first and second eleven adult teams and are making a telling difference with their contributions – this is something as a coach pleases me the most.
