Performance Notes

General
Harrow won toss batted
Confident decision making to bat
New captain; 4 or 5 MDL debutants
Important to establish new team dynamics and gel as a team
Harrow : 140 All Out in 29.5 overs
Osterley : 141-4 in 25.3 overs

Osterley won by 6 wickets. A new team, new captain, new generation of MDL - 4 debutants. A lot of potential but we did not bat long enough. Had them, 63 for 4 but did not have enough to defend and they also had a number of over 21 experienced players in their team to keep their calm to see it home.

While disappointing result, lots of positives and lots of potential. The key take away is to occupy the crease and seek to bat the 40 overs.

Batting / Batsmen
140 all out in 29.5 overs
A number of batsmen got over the first 30 minutes which are the most challenging but did not consolidate
Good running between wickets
Need to consolidate in tough conditions
Even at half way mark, with wickets falling, were scoring at just under 5 an over. At that rate, if you are not losing wickets, you should be able to get to 230/240

Krish Nanavati - 12 / Caught behind: Batted 38 minutes; did the hard work then tickled one to the keeper; played in the “V” in settling in and watched the ball well; in the first few overs footwork was sluggish then got into his stride on both sides of the wicket. Important to warm up feet ahead
A Patel - 0 / Caught behind: Edged an out-swinger in second over of innings
Dylan Rawal - 1 / Caught at mid-wicket: Hit a full toss sweetly straight to fielder
Myles Bryan - 10 / Bowled playing across: Played himself in and tried to steady innings after shaky start, coming in at 7 for 2; Ran well between wickets to rotate strike. Was hitting to leg for some which he could have played straight.
K Devshi - 8 / Bowled: Played a fighting innings of just under 30 minutes, seeking to turn around the momentum after coming in in a difficult situation
D Shori - 23 / Caught at mid-off: Top scored other than extras. Played straight well and watched the ball well. Put away the bad ball from the spinner. Was patient. Important when you have done the hard work, like he did today, to continue to scores of 50 when you get half way there.
K Fernando - 16 / LBW: Played a cameo of an innings with shots all around the wicket. Did not look in any problems when he got caught on the crease, neither forward or back.
I Bangash - 18 / Bowled: Last man out. Definitely now becoming an all rounder that we can rely on for runs in the lower order. Hit a lovely straight driven 6 off their best bowler. Rotated the strike well.
R Bangash - 6 / Caught: Looked at ease until he holed out to mid-off. Batting has improved significantly. Should look to occupy crease.
E Misra - 4 / Bowled: While he did not stay long, he looked well organised and balanced in his stay. Should set goals to develop into a reliable lower order batsman.
A Kakar - 1 Not Out: Sought to rotate strike to keep senior batsman on strike

Bowling

R Bangash : 6-0-19-1; Started off as leader of the attack this year; important to reflect on what that means; to set the example as the senior bowler, to set the example for the newer fast bowlers. To keep up the pressure from the start. Did that well. Was on the spot from the start, even in the face of a very attacking opening batsman. Took wicket in 3rd over. Opening spell of 6-0-19-1.
E Misra : 8-1-41-1; A very good, resilience opening spell. Kept his shape, confidence and length when under attack from a belligerent opposition opening batsman. After going for 11 in first over, recovered well, took wicket in 3rd over and had first spell of 5-1-30-1.
A Kakar: 3-0-28-1; A solid debut. Got a wicket in his first over. While an expensive opening spell, is an attacking bowler seeking to get wickets. Key thing is to ensure that when batsman is going after him, to seek to slow down the batsman by adjusting length.
D Shori : 4-0-31-0; Found and bowled to his length from his first over. Varied paced and flight well in first three overs then lost shape later in fourth over as batsmen kept coming at him and as a left / right hand combination rotated strike. Think about how you bowl to such pairs.
I Bangash : 4.3-0-20-0; Hit his line and length from the start and kept a tight rein. Did not have a big score to defend. Is now the senior and most experienced bowler in the team and a mentor to younger bowlers. He should think about this role.

Captaincy, fielding and wicket keeping

Captaincy - Miles leads with a quiet authority. Positioned himself at 1st slip. A good vantage point from which to observe as captain
Wicket keeping - Dylan kept deceptively well. As the day progressed, there was uneven bounce which he navigated well. By standing up to Raza put pressure on the batsmen. A tidy keeper who sets the tone in the field as a result.
Fielders - in the first 15 overs the supported bowlers well, in particularly as it was an uneven outfield; kept energy in the field; deep fielders kept a number of shots as singles that could have been twos; Miles took a brilliant low catch diving forward at first slip; was also an excellent run out off of a free hit ball to dismiss their well set opening batsman and pull back the momentum. In the overs between 16 to 20, scoring rate was 7 per over as bowling and fielding became ragged.
