Performance Notes

Harrow : 198 all out in 35 overs
London Tigers: 140 all out in 30.2 overs

Harrow won by 58 runs.

This was a very encouraging result, where, being put in to bat by the opposition, we achieved nearly all of our team goals - batting the full complement of overs (reduced to 35 due to rain) for just under 200 runs, and then a disciplined execution of bowling and fielding.

What was particularly pleasing was that there was improvement in all areas since last week. The team reflected on the areas of improvement over the week and consciously executed them this week. What embodied the improvement was that this week we bowled 2 wides, compared to 22 wides last week. A good team dynamic with all players under 21, and at least 4 players are around the age of 15.

General

London Tigers won toss and sent in Harrow to bat
The number of overs was reduced from 40 overs to 35 overs as a result of rain at the start of the innings
This was an improved batting performance by Harrow where Harrow used up the full 35 overs and were dismissed for just under 200.
There was one 50 partnership, and three thirty plus partnerships.
Would be good for a few more of the thirty partnerships to be converted to 50 partnerships
Important for some more batsmen who got starts to go on; too many players got starts, batted for 30 mins, then got out after doing the hard work.

Batting
Krish Nanavati: 14/ Caught behind - played himself in well; rotated strike well; moved feet more freely this week; keep working on this.
Aaryan Patel: - 62/ Caught at short third man going for runs in the 32nd over; batted 2 hours 15 minutes; 135 minutes; played an excellent openers innings; saw off the new ball; rotated the strike; hit the bad balls for boundaries; 6 4’s and 1 6 in reaching his 50 in 93 minutes; knew how to play “2nd fiddle” when batting with Kavadu when Kavadu scored 38 of a partnership of 52. Batted through most of the innings, which is the excellent limited overs innings for an opener; bat and have the team bat around you
Myles Bryan: 1/Bowled - Played back when it may have been better to have gone forward. Work on practicing that decision making in the nets in the coming week
Riten Chauhan: 16/Stumped - Played himself in well; rotated the strike well; a wristy elegant player; batted for just over 30 minutes and then a rash shot; did the hard work and then did not take advantage of his start. Must realise he can and does score quickly without going for rash shots
Sadam Zabith: 23/Caught at deep mid-on. Played a cameo innings; attacking from the start; scored his 23 runs in 20 minutes.
Dupesh Shori: 0/Bowled playing forward to a good ball.
Irtiza Bangash: 0 / Run out in misunderstanding when going for a run with Irtiza as the striker
Kavadu Fernando: 39 / Caught off of a full toss that was border line around waste high. Played an excellent innings of 39 in 32 minutes, contributing 38 out of a partnership of 52 in 7.4 overs with a well set Aaryan. Hit 3 fours on his innings; ran well and rotated the strike; placed the ball in the gaps; hit in the air and over the top well, showing good shot selection and decision making. Played to all sides of the wicket well; cut well as well as drove well
Raza Bangash: 16 / Run out off the very last ball of the innings; an important cameo innings to get us close to 200 and to ensure that we used the full 35 overs. Hit a lovely straight 6 and played straight, even when attacking
Ekash Misra: 2 / Bowled; at the stage of the innings he came in, showed good game sense to seek to rotate the strike with Raza and also to ensure that Harrow used its full 35 overs.
Attal Kakar: 0 / Not out; Held his end and ran between wickets well so that Raza was on strike for most of the last over to ensure we used our 35 overs and for close to 200.

Bowling

Overall, an excellent bowling performance, dismissing London Tigers in 30.2 overs with everyone bowling accurately. What sums up the performance was that this week there were just two wides bowled, compared to 22 last week.

Ekansh Misra: 5-0-25-2; Accurate 1st spell hit the correct line and length from the outset; showed resilience in that, after being hit for 13 in one over came back an took wickets in each over after that; fielded well to own bowling to take caught and bowled.
Raza Bangash: 5-0-27-1; After expensive first over of 12 bowled an accurate spell, taking the wicket of the well set attacking opener who was going at over 7 an over. Raza and Ekansh bowled well in partnership and by taking 3 wickets in the first 10 overs, kept the opposing team pegged back.
Saddam Zabith: 5-0-13-1; Tight spell of off-spin; dropped on to a tight line and length right at the outset and pulled back the scoring rate well in that crucial period between 10 and 20 overs. Bowled well in partnership with Irtiza.
Irtiza Bangash: 5.2-0-17-2; Excellent spell of bowling. As arguably the leader and most senior bowler in the attack with Sadam bowled a tight first spell of 5 overs of 5-0-17-1, pegging back the middle order and then came back at the end to finish off the innings. Varied flight well and uses his quicker ball sparingly and well.
Dupesh Shori: 3-0-17-0: Came on to bowl when the batsmen were on the charge. Was pretty resilient through it. Reflect on how to vary length and flight when under attack as a spinner.
Riten Chauhan: 3-0-10-2; An effective wicket taking spell of accurate spin bowling, hitting the right areas of line and length and flight from the outset. That always makes the difference.
Attal Kakar: 4-0-22-1; A effective, aggressive spell of fast bowling, where Attal ran in with energy and a wicket taking mindset. He bowls as if he always wants and expects something to happen when he is bowling. Bowled a well set, attacking batsman, in his second over, which shows the benefits of being accurate and aggressive from early.

Captaincy/Wicketkeeping/Fielding

Captaincy - Sadam, captained today and led with a calm presence, rotating his bowlers well, in particular he ensured that the younger and more inexperienced bowlers were fully supported and encouraged.

Wicketkeeping - Kavadu kept tidily, with no byes conceded and encouraging the bowlers. Had trouble on occasion with the sharply bouncing balls from the spinners, always difficult. Practice taking such balls in the net this coming week.

Fielding - A strong fielding performance. All outfield catches were taken, in particular by Irtiza at important times when well set attacking batsmen gave chances. Fielders in the ring, and the sweepers, backed up and supported the spinners well to keep things tight.

Appendix: Warm up drills and Health and Safety / COVID arrangements

Health and safety - COVID: As per match 1 combined with Harrow CC rules on direction of movement through the pavilion, social distancing, and use of sanitisers

Warm up drills - As per last week; Supervise but encourage them to be player led.
