Harrow 1st XI v Harrow Cricket Club Presidents XI on Sun 12 Jul 2009 at 1400
Harrow Cricket Club Lost
Match report
The traditional presidents day fixture allowed old acquaintances to be renewed as familiar faces once again graced Paynes Folly. A thoroughly enjoyable day of cricket ended in Harrow narrowly beating the presidents XI by 3 runs.
Batting first Harrow posted a very competitive 255 off their 40 overs, with Luke Quinlivan (88) and David "Mozza" Morris (58*) being the stand out performers. Both batsman playing attacking innings and scoring quickly. In reply Harrow had seemed in control of the match reducing the presidents XI to 155-6. But a typically swashbuckling 55 from Clint Wolverson almost turned the game on its head. Despite needing to score 91 off the last 9 overs, Wolverson unleashed a barrage of sixes, including one that is probably still on its way to Sudbury Hill station. With 18 runs needed off the last over, the presidents XI still refused to give up and a six and four off the first three balls kept them in the game. However Avinash Karia kept his cool to bowl out the game as 3 runs was all that separated the two sides after a very entertaining days cricket. It was a fitting finale for outgoing president Ray Haynes.
