Harrow Cricket Club 1st XI v Highgate on Sat 06 Aug 2011 at 1300
Harrow Cricket Club Won
Match report
In a game that ebbed and flowed for most of the day, Harrow held their nerve to close out the game with only 3 overs to spare at home to Highgate on Saturday. Harrow quickly lost both openers and found themselves in trouble at 13-2 off 13 overs. Batting was hard work, but for the second time in two weeks Dave Mungrue and Darius D’Souza put on a crucial partnership to rescue Harrow. When they were both dismissed, Harrow once again found themselves in trouble at 75-4 off 27 overs. Then followed a quite outstanding passage of play by Darren Crook and Tushaar Karia that turned the game on its head. Their 150 run partnership came in only 20 overs as both players produced some of the best stroke play of the season so far, Crook reaching a well deserved century and Karia hitting a splendid 69. It allowed Harrow to declare on 237-7 off 50 overs.
In reply, Highgate got off to a flying starting with 70 on the board in 11 overs. But some canny tight bowling from Mohane and Karia helped pull the scoring rate back. At 145-2 Highgate looked well placed with 15 overs to go. A crucial run out by Waqas Hussina then triggered a panic amongst the visitors. Crucial wickets from Tushaar Karia (3-68) and joint man of the match Kirit Mohane (5-46) changed the game once again. Mohane took four wickets in his final 3 overs to finish off the tail. In truth it had been a fine team performance with many players contributing.
The win moves Harrow up to fourth in the table.
