Harrow Cricket Club 1st XI v North Middlesex on Sat 16 May 2009 at 1300
Harrow Cricket Club Lost
Match report
A weakened Harrow side suffered their second consecutive Middlesex County Cricket League defeat, losing by six wickets to league leaders North Middlesex. Losing the toss and being put into bat on green and slightly damp pitch, Harrow were in trouble from the start. The North Middlesex bowlers used the early movement to reduce Harrow to 44-4. Suk Bhupal (31) and Alistair Phillips (25) tried to repair the damage with a fifth wicket partnership of 54, but were both dismissed in quick succession to leave the home reeling once again at 106-7. An enterprising 8th wicket partnership of 53 between top scorer Avinash Karia (39) and Farrukh Choudhry (21) saw Harrow scramble their way to 161 all out, as the conditions gradually became easier for batting on a drying pitch. Seamer Nightingale (3-50) and spinner Sempar (3-18) were the pick of a disciplined North Middlesex bowling unit.
An early wicket gave Harrow some hope as North Middlesex began their reply, but a crucial dropped catch in the slips proved very costly, as North Middlesex opener Evan Flowers made the most of his repreive to score 84 not out, and in partnership with Sempar who rounded off a fine personal performance with a quickfire 44, ensured that North Middlesex cruised home to their target in only 33 overs, winning by 6 wickets.
