Harpenden v Harrow Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI on Sun 19 Jul 2009 at 1300
Harrow Cricket Club Won
Match report
Harrow 1st XI made it a 100% winning weekend with success in the Chess Valley League on Sunday away to Harpenden. Winning the toss and batting first the batsmen found it hard to get any momentum going due to several rain delays and which eventually shortened the innings to 38 overs. A second wicket partnership of 69 between Avi Karia (35) and Tushaar Karia (27) had laid a good platform before Harrow had a mini collapse to 104-6. But a enterprising 53 run partnership between Farrukh Choudhry (19) and Victor Yadav (38) allowed Harrow ro reach a defendable total of 159 off their 38 overs. Yadav in particular, with some clean hitting, only faced 28 balls for his 38 and really gave the innings the late flourish it needed.
In reply an excellent opening burst from Darren Crook (1-10) and Tushaar Karia (4-36) reduced Harpenden to 42-4. Spinners Avinash Karia (3-34) and Steve Ashton (1-40) tightened the screw further with some tight middle overs and two wickets in two balls from Avinash Karia effectively ended any chances Harpenden had of the winning the game. In the end Harrow ran out comfortable winners by 23 runs as Harpenden were bowled out for 136 in the 35th over.
